River Severn, Kempsey

Kempsey

Kempsey has 24 pegs downstream of Worcester on the Lower Severn and is situated 3 to 4 miles from Junction 7 of the M5. This is one of our top waters and club members have had some fantastic catches from this water including many double figure Barbel, Roach to well over two pound, Bream to 9lb, Pike to 20lb+ and huge Zander. Other species include Perch, Eels and Chub plus the occasional flatfish from the sea that strays upstream a little further than normal.

The Lower Severn water at Kempsey is a wonderful stretch of the river, very quiet with the Malvern Hills visible across the river. (See photo).  Parking is but one field away from the river (about 150yards). This may be further if wet weather is around. If in doubt, park sensibly around farm buildings and walk down the track.

This stretch has an excellent history for throwing up big Barbel and the club operates a night syndicate on this water.

To qualify you must be a member of Kinver Freeliners Angling Club obtain a 'night pass'from the Secretary. Numbers are limited, and issued on a first come first served basis. Otherwise fishing is dawn till dusk only.

Don’t be put off by this as the Barbel come out in the day just as much together with virtually every species that swims. There are also some big river Carp on this stretch.

One word of warning on this water, the banks are as is common on the Lower Severn, steep and high so care must be taken when getting down there, especially during wet weather.  Some take a rope with them for safety reasons and some wear an inflatable vest. We feel that it is only right that this is pointed out.

Day tickets are available on this BUT MUST be purchased in advance from the Secretary. Applications for the Night syndicate are also available from the Secretary.
